Janet McNeill, one of my favorite Ontario activists, brought my attention to William Kamkwamba of Malawi, author of The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind.   This is a phenomental story of how the teenaged William taught himself how to build a windmill.  With very little money or resources, he assembled a wind turbine from scrap metal, and tractor and bicycle parts.  His project changed the lives of those in his village, as it brought them electricity and running water.
